Stepping Up

About the program

Stepping Out was a series of workshops in 2011 which used art and other mediums to help women discover their creativity, build confidence and find internal strength to help them manage the pace and stress of motherhood and modern life.

We have developed a new program for 2012 called Stepping Up.

The first part of the program was Life Story Writing, conducted by award-winning author Denise Young. This course was run in March.

The second part of the program is Drama, which will be run by professional actor and dancer Annalouise Paul during May.

Stepping Up is a joint project between The Infants’ Home, the City of Canada Bay Council, and Drummoyne Community Centre.

Who it is for

Everyone has creative talents. These workshops are for women looking for a creative outlet to discover abilities they had forgotten, rediscover their own power, or rekindle their passion for life.

What is involved

The first part of Stepping Up included storytelling and writing. The second course is about drama.

Creative mediums are excellent tools to navigate life’s challenges and to create fun and joy in our lives. Increased joy and passion and confidence has positive flow-on effects for the whole family. Stronger families mean stronger communities.

How much it costs

Stepping Up costs $20 for two 4-hour classes of Drama with Annalouise Paul.

Child care is also available for a small charge of $5 per day.

When and where the courses are held

The sessions for Drama will be held on Tuesdays from 11am-3pm at Drummoyne Community Centre, 10 Comtrowe Street, Drummoyne.

Comments from Stepping Out participants

"The program shone some light onto things I need to change in my life."

"I found the workshops transforming as I sometimes suffer agoraphobia since having my children, and I have also been coping with the deaths of my mother, uncle and a very close friend. I sometimes felt so overwhelmed that I had lost touch with myself."

"Stepping Out has given me a means to explore some creative aspects of myself which had been buried for over 30 years. It was only during the course that I realised the immense joy these pursuits could add to my life, and to the lives of other women."
